Maths Curriculum

Maths enable the child to think and communicate quantitatively and spatially, solve problems, recognize situations where mathematics can be applied, and use appropriate technology to support such use.

Our Mathematics Curriculum is based on Cambridge international standards.

We emphasize the development of the child’s estimation skills and problem-solving skills using examples which are relevant to the child’s experience.

Discussion, hands-on experience with materials, and active learning are encouraged from infants to sixth grade, and the importance of the development of mathematical language in communicating ideas is also stressed.

The development of numeracy skills is central to the child’s life both within and outside school. These skills are also important for educational and personal success in later life.

It includes a skills development section which describes the skills that children should acquire as they develop mathematically.

Skills Includes:

  • Applying and problem-solving
  • Understanding and recalling
  • Communicating and expressing
  • Integrating and connecting
  • Reasoning
  • Implementing
  • Understanding and recalling

It also includes a number of strands which outline content that is to be included in the mathematics program at each level. Each strand includes a number of strand units. Depending on the class level, strands can include:

  • Early mathematical activities
  • Number & Algebra
  • Shape and space
  • Measurements
  • Data handling
